Once we have picked up our guests and properly dressed them in professional winter overalls and boots (the temperature can drop to as low as -30°C!), your professional guide will drive you north, far from Rovaniemi, straight into the wilderness to begin the hunt for the Northern Lights.
This tour also offers you the opportunity to drive long distances through the Lapland wilderness and discover Arctic nature. You can take different routes with your guide, all leading to magnificent landscapes. At the various stopping places, you may take a short walk through a very old, white, snowy forest or to the top of some fells; you may cross a hanging wooden bridge over powerful rapids; you can also enjoy the silence by a lake shore or stand in the middle of a vast expanse filled with ice and snow... Hopefully, the Northern Lights will dance above your heads!
Along the way, you will also have the chance to light a campfire, either in nature, next to a log shelter (which we call a Laavu or Kota here), or in a tipi. Your guide will teach you how to light a fire in the traditional way, without matches or a lighter, using only silver birch bark and flint and steel to ignite it. Once the fire is lit and the kettle is boiling, your guide will keep an eye on the moving sky. While you wait for the first greenish arcs to appear above your head, they will share with you their knowledge and passion for the forest, Lapland’s nature and its wildlife, and of course the Northern Lights. You will also receive hot drinks to warm you up, grill your own sausages over the open fire, and enjoy your snack with the most famous Finnish mustard.
Important:
Please bring your own camera (you may rent or buy a tripod from us if you wish) so that you can capture the Northern Lights. In any case, your guide will have a professional camera and will take as many photos as possible of you and the Northern Lights (feel free to ask them!). A link to download all the photos will be sent to you the following day. We will provide you with overalls and boots, but please come prepared and wear warm base layers, socks, a hat, and gloves.
Minimum number of participants: 2 people. Maximum group size: 8 participants. The minimum age for participants is 4 years. Not recommended for participants with heart problems or other serious medical conditions. The trip may involve some walking in the cold.
